Island hat wieder

Nach 14jähriger
Abstinenz hat die Isländische Walfangflotte wieder
begonnen Wale zu töten. Zu "wissenschaflichen
Zwecken" will Island
38 Zwergwale töten um den Mageninhalt zu untersuchen. Für die
nächsten 2 Jahren beantragte Island den Fang von 500 Walen; je
200 Finn-und Zwergwale sowie 100 Seiwale.
Es ist unglaublich,
das Island sich hinter dem gleichen verlogenen
Deckmantel des wissenschaflichen Walfangs versteckt wie die
Walfangnationen Japan und Norwegen. Es liegt die Vermutung nahe,
daß
Japan durch finanzielle Mittel Island zum Walfang ermuntert hat,
wie es
auch ein offenes Geheimnis ist, daß auf IWC-Sitzungen Stimmen für
die
Zustimmung zu den Anträgen der Walfangnationen gekauft wurden .
Am 9. Nov.1986
versenkte Sea Shepherd im Hafen von Rejkjavik
2 Walfangboote und zerstörte eine Walfangstation. Der gesammte
Schaden
betrug 8 millionen Dollar. Island widmete sich damals dann dem
sog.
whale-watching, d.h. dem touristischen Beobachten von Walen, was
bisher eine wichtige Einnahmequelle war. Dieser
Walbeoahtungstourismus
diente jedoch lediglich dazu die Boote der Walfangflotte in
Schuss zu halten.
Die Tourismusbranche
Islands verzeichnet seit der Wiederaufnahme des
Walfangs eine Welle von Reiseabsagen aus Europa und den USA.
Laut
Angaben der Internetagentur NFI in Reykjavik sind erneut Absagen
aus
Großbritannien, Frankreich und den USA eingegangen. Die
Maketing-Managerin von Iceland Travel, Sigrun Sigmundsdottir
erklärte:
"Wir meinen, dass das erst der Anfang ist."
Der weltweit größte
Reiseveranstalter TUI (Preussag AG) und 21 europäische
Veranstalter appellierten in einem Schreiben an die Isländische
Regierung den
Walfang noch einmal zu überdenken.
Der schwedische
Rundfunk berichtete aus Reykjavik, dass das Fleisch der
ersten getöten Wale reißenden Absatz gefunden habe. Die Fänger
hatten
zuvor nur wenige Teile der Tiere beim isländischen
Meeresforschungsinstitut
zu Untersuchungen abgeliefert.
Die Isländer
haben wieder Walblut geleckt.
Argumente und
weltweite Proteste haben die Verantwortlichen bisher nicht
zum Umdenken bewegt. Boykottaufrufe - so sie konsequent
umgesetzt werden -
sind bisher das wirksamste Mittel um etwas zu verändern.

und teilen Sie mit, daß Sie es begrüßen, daß TUI sich
gegen den Walfang ausspricht.
